Care and maintenance of model cars

The most important step in maintaining model cars is to avoid dust and other contaminants from the outset as much as possible. It is best to store your models in a dust-proof display cabinet or in Plexiglas cases specifically designed for model cars. This protects the models not only from dust, but also from accidental contact and damage. Condition plays a crucial role, especially with collector's models. The value of used models is largely determined by their state of preservation. For this reason, you should never dispose of the original packaging, as it often significantly increases the collector's value. It is also important to keep the model clean and avoid heavy soiling, as this can affect the paintwork, delicate attachments, or the interior in the long term. If cleaning should nevertheless be necessary, observe the following Dos & Don’ts to maintain your model gently and preserve its value in the long term:

DOs

Removing surface dust: It is best to use a dry, soft spectacle cleaning cloth or another lint-free microfiber cloth. Gently wipe away the dust, taking care not to apply too much pressure.

Cleaning convertibles and engine bays: For open vehicles or heavily dusty engine bays, compressed air can be used. However, ensure that the air pressure is set as low as possible, as excessive pressure can damage or dislodge sensitive components.

Cleaning interiors: Slightly dampened cotton swabs are suitable for seats, dashboards, or other hard-to-reach areas. They allow for the targeted and gentle removal of dust.

Don'ts

Do not use kitchen sponges or hard cleaning tools. These can cause fine scratches and permanently damage the paint finish.

Do not wipe forcefully over delicate attachments. Windshield wipers, side mirrors, spoilers, and other fine components are very fragile and can easily break off if too much pressure is applied.

Never fully immerse the model in water. Submerging it can cause damage to the paint, adhesive bonds, decals, and the interior.
